FORT CAVAZOS, Texas — As part of a new service, The Hop, a bus service that serves Central Texas, and Fort Cavazos will begin a new partnership bus route Nov. 24-26 called the “The Holiday Hop.”
This bus route is a test route for a larger program coming next year to provide mass transit service to on-post residents. The Holiday Hop route will operate again from Dec. 23 to Jan. 7, 2024.
Anyone with a Department of Defense identification card can ride the Holiday Hop for free. The Holiday Hop route will pick up and drop off patrons at the designated pickup points.
“This is the beginning of a partnership with the Hop,” said Col. Lakicia Stokes, U.S. Army Garrison Fort Cavazos commander. “The initial Holiday Hop bus route will provide bus service to key places on post.” Soldiers, families, retirees and any other person with a Department of Defense Identification Card will be able to board the Holiday Hop at any point along the route and proceed to their desired destination. It’s intended for Soldiers who live in the barracks to be able to ride to the Dining Facility, the Exchange, the Commissary, and many of the other places to eat and shop on post.
“Early next year, the bus service will expand to become a mass-transit service on post called the ‘Cavazos Connector,’ which will allow residents to call for service at the nearest bus stop and enable them to travel to their desired destination and back again,” Stokes said. “This includes residents in Cavalry Family Housing and employees who work on post.”
