Fort Cavazos officials warn of heavy rain, possible widespread flooding
Fort Cavazos, Texas — Fort Hood (Now designated Fort Cavazos) officials issued a weather warning for the entire Fort Cavazos reservation including a potential of flash floods due to heavy rain exceeding 4 inches within 24-48 hours. There is also a potential for severe thunderstorms with high wind greater than 20 knots with possible 35 knot wind gust possible until 8 a.m. Jan. 25.
Runoff from heavy rain will flood creeks, streams, street intersections, culverts and underpasses. Low lying places that normally flood could become death traps. Residents should not cross any flood area. Officials are warning residents with the message of “Turn around don’t drown.”
If water covering a road. Even SUVs and pickups will be swept away by as little as two feet of rushing water.
Condition Amber is defined as: All or some of the steams and creaks on Fort Cavazos are open for tactical crossings, but potential hazards could exist due to weather conditions. Specific hazardous creeks and crossings sites will be identified. Military vehicles may cross these specific sites along their route of March with caution, and only after TCs have conducted a thorough risk assessment.

Condition AMBER: All or some streams and creeks on Fort Cavazos are open for tactical crossings, but potential hazards could exist due to weather conditions. Specific hazardous creeks and crossing sites will be identified. Military vehicles may cross these specific sites along their route of March with caution, and only after TCs have conducted a thorough risk assessment.
Condition RED: All streams and creeks on Fort Cavazos are closed due to hazardous conditions. Specific closed crossing sites will be identified, and military vehicles are NOT authorized to cross those sites until further notice.
Note: When the Low Water Crossing report status turns RED, immediately notify the MSCs telephonically and email the updated Low Water Crossings report.
