FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BRAVE RIFLES CASE COLORS AS THEY HEAD TO KOREA
FORT CAVAZOS – The 1st Cavalry Division’s 3rd Cavalry Regiment will formally case its unit colors at a ceremony on Cooper Field at 9 a.m. on February 1st, 2024, in preparation for its 9-month rotation to the Republic of Korea.
Deploying units along with their leaders and guidons will take the field for a final send-off in front of friends, family and military leaders from across Fort Cavazos. The brief and traditional ceremony will see the unit case its unit colors and streamers until a ceremony in Korea.
The “Brave Rifles” will replace the 4th Infantry Division’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team out of Fort Carson, Colorado. This is the first time the Brave Rifles have ever been sent to the Indo-Pacific to assist in deterring adversaries in the region. It will also be the first time the regimental command team of Colonel Barta and Command Sergeant Major McInroy, has ever been to the Korean Peninsula in their careers, a small fact revealed during their recent appearance on the Fort Cavazos Great Big Podcast with Eric Von Franklin.
Approximately 4,000 Brave Rifle troops and 1,500 pieces of equipment will travel halfway around the globe to take part in joint and multinational training and maintain the strength of the alliance between the US and Republic of Korea.
This rotational deployment is a planned rotation of forces to support the United States’ commitment to deter aggression and if deterrence fails “Fight Tonight” in support of our allies on the Korean Peninsula.
Media is invited to attend casing ceremonies at Fort Cavazos in the future and may contact the public affairs office for interview opportunities. If planning to attend, please RSVP no later than January 30th. Media will meet for escort at 8 a.m. at the Fort Cavazos Visitor Center media staging area.
