FORT CAVAZOS, Texas – Media are invited to cover the departure (by train) of Army tanks and other vehicles Monday, June 2. The vehicles are bound for Washington, D.C. to take part in the upcoming parade in celebration of the 250th birthday of the U.S. Army.
The equipment includes more than two dozen Abrams main battle tanks, Bradley Fighting Vehicles, Stryker infantry carriers, and Paladin howitzers.
Media will be able to film and photograph the train as it departs from Fort Cavazos.
The Army is celebrating its 250th birthday on June 14 with multiple events. The national level celebration will include a day-long festival on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., a parade and a spectacular fireworks display. The festival will feature displays of Army equipment, military demonstrations, activities for kids, musical performances and a fitness competition. Parade planning is actively underway, and planners anticipate approximately 150 vehicles, 50 aircraft, and 6,600 Soldiers to highlight the Army’s 250 years of service to the nation.
1,800 Soldiers from III Armored Corps will join the tanks in the nation’s capital over the coming weeks.
Attending media should plan for additional travel time to arrive at the meeting location. The show time coincides with heavy morning traffic to Fort Cavazos.
