FORT HOOD (Now designated Fort Cavazos), Texas – The 1st Cavalry Division will host an assumption of responsibility ceremony at 8:30 a.m., Aug. 17 on Cooper Field.
Command Sgt. Maj. Shade S. Munday will assume responsibility of the 1st Cavalry Division. Munday previously served as the command sergeant major of the 3d Cavalry Regiment since December 2020.
Munday assumes responsibility of more than 18,000 Soldiers at Fort Hood (Now designated Fort Cavazos). In the past year, brigades from the 1st Cavalry Division have deployed to Europe, Korea, and the Middle East. At Fort Hood (Now designated Fort Cavazos) the 1st Cavalry Division has fielded the most modern tanks—the M1A2 SEPv3—and Joint Light Tactical Fighting Vehicle to improve its position as the most lethal and technologically-advanced armored division in the U.S. Army. The ceremony will include a special “Cavalry Charge” with a helicopter flyover.
