March 30 UPDATE: Fort Hood (Now designated Fort Cavazos) firefighting efforts continue, fire more than 80% contained

FORT HOOD (Now designated Fort Cavazos), Texas – Fort Hood (Now designated Fort Cavazos) Directorate of Emergency Services officials continued to monitor the Crittenberg Complex fire on Fort Hood (Now designated Fort Cavazos) overnight.

The fire is currently 80% contained on post and 95% off post in Flat, Texas. The fire has burned 33,175 acres.

Since the beginning of the fire response, aircrews have conducted more than 206 air drops. Rain overnight was .4 inches. Fire crews went out this morning to make an assessment of the current status of the fire.

While smoke may not be currently visible, hot spots remain. Ground fire crews are on standby to attack hotspots as they are identified.

Firefighting capabilities include airdrops by military aircraft along with Texas A&M Forest Service dozers and personnel as well as numerous firefighting organizations from surrounding counties and municipalities conducting offensive and defensive operations to suppress and contain the fires.

East and West Range Roads remain closed with only military and emergency services vehicles allowed access.
