FORT HOOD (Now designated Fort Cavazos), Texas — III Corps and Fort Hood (Now designated Fort Cavazos) leadership will host a cake-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m., May 16 at the flagpole outside III Corps Headquarters, as the official kick-off of Operation Phantom Warrior Salute. The ceremony will include Soldiers in period uniforms dating back to World War I, as well as period music and dance selections. III Corps was activated on May 16, 1918, and has contributed to every major conflict, as well as conducted multiple humanitarian missions since its inception. As part of the ceremony, Maj. Gen. J T Thomson, deputy commanding general for maneuvers, Command Sgt. Maj. Maurice Jackson, as well as former III Corps commanders, command sergeant majors and the oldest and youngest soldiers in the Corps will cut the cake together.
Media desiring to attend the event should register here no later than 4 p.m. May 15. A public affairs representative will meet at the Marvin Leath Visitors center to escort media on post at 9:30 a.m. May 16.
