Fort Hood (Now designated Fort Cavazos) officials will host an African-American History Month Observance at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 22 at the community events center. The guest speaker is Pastor (Sergeant Major retired) Rodney W. Gilchrist.
Gilchrist retired from the Army on Aug. 1, 2010, after 24 years of service. He his final assignment was as the III Corps and Fort Hood (Now designated Fort Cavazos) paralegal command sergeant major, serving as the senior enlisted adviser to the III Corps and Fort Hood (Now designated Fort Cavazos) staff judge advocate. He is a combat veteran who served tours both in the Gulf War and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The theme of the 2018 African American Month is “African Americans in Times of War.” The theme emphasizes the contributions of African Americans to the defense of the nation, from Revolutionary War to the present, and gives the nation a chance to reflect on the contributions of African-American Soldiers, civilians and their family members.
This is a community event open to all military, family members and civilians.
