FORT CAVAZOS, Texas — Effective immediately, the Fort Cavazos community and Cavalry Family Housing residents will implement Stage 3 mandatory water conservation measures. This will remain in effect until rescinded or additional conservation measures are implemented.
“Bell County Water Control and Improvement District #1 reported a water line break on one of their major distribution pipes that provides water to Fort Cavazos and our neighboring communities,” Col. Lakicia Stokes, U.S. Army Garrison-Fort Cavazos commander, said. “It is critical for each of us to promote water stewardship and understand how our daily actions and choices have a direct impact on our water resource.”
Stage 3 mandatory water conservation measures will be required of all personnel who work or reside on Fort Cavazos:
- No watering of all types of landscaping except from 6 to 10 a.m. and 8 to 10 p.m. daily. No water runoff allowed from areas being watered.
- Watering using a watering can, hand-held hose or similar method only in order to prevent over watering.
- Sprinkler systems used during approved hours only with a person continuously present on-site to turn off the system when sufficient water has been applied.
- No washing of privately owned vehicles except at commercial car washes with functioning water recycling systems.
- No washing of military vehicles at motor pool wash racks. In addition, water may only be used as needed for mission critical activities. Flow control nozzles that shut off when hoses are not in use are required.
- Military vehicles shall be washed at a Tactical Vehicle Wash Facility only, with the exception of aircraft that must be washed to meet essential mission requirements. The washing of emergency and other work-related vehicles and equipment is prohibited except when necessary to ensure their safe operation.
- No fundraising or organizational car washes.
- No addition of water to privately owned pools.
- Water mains will not be flushed except for cases of contamination or other circumstances that compromise the safety of the water supply.
- No potable water use for construction activities, including but not limited to irrigation and dust control.
- No planting of new sod, seed or other landscaping due to their need for higher amounts of water.
- Golf course irrigation to be done using water from non-potable sources only.
- No use of water from hydrants except for firefighting and similar emergencies, or other activities necessary to maintain public health and safety.
- Report all water leaks to the Directorate of Public Works at 254-287-2113.
