SAN SABA, Texas — Fort Cavazos leaders invite area ranchers, landowners, community leaders and neighbors to participate in a town hall and community outreach meeting from 1 – 3 p.m. Jan. 23 at the San Saba Civic Center.
The event is an opportunity for attendees to ask questions and discuss concerns regarding Fort Cavazos helicopter training in the Western Training Area (WTA) with installation leaders and pilots.
The Western Training Area is a designated military aerial training zone that serves as a key location for Fort Cavazos’ AH-64 Apache and CH-47 Chinook helicopter exercises. The WTA includes the following counties: Coryell, Hamilton, Lampasas, Mills, Comanche, Burnet and San Saba.
While training activities are essential for military readiness, the community’s concerns and input are a priority for the leadership at Fort Cavazos.
“Fort Cavazos is dedicated to being a good neighbor throughout the Central Texas region,” said Col. Lakicia Stokes, Fort Cavazos garrison commander. “We must continue to train in order to maintain readiness, but we also want to minimize our impact on local communities. That’s why we’re asking for their participation and input at this town hall. We want to foster open, amicable communication.”
Attendees will have the opportunity to become familiar with rotary wing platforms; learn about common helicopter Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) and why the military must practice them. The garrison commander and Fort Cavazos aviation staff will discuss how the military exercises its TTPs and provide input on training regulations that impact the area during the town hall.
The San Saba Civic Center is located at 1190 S. Thomas Stewart Drive, San Saba, Texas.
