FORT CAVAZOS, Texas — The Dutch 302 Squadron first started training on Texas soil at Fort Hood in 1996. 302 Squadron is a joint US/Netherlands (NLD) training squadron initially created to train and evaluate Dutch Apache pilots. From 2011 through 2013, the 302 Squadron also began the training and certification of Dutch Air Assault Infantry units along with NLD Chinook helicopters.
Since that time, the 302 Squadron (now part of the US Army 166th Aviation Brigade) has built great relationships within the U.S. Army and neighboring landowners as far west as Menard County and Bosque County to the north.
On June 3 and 4, the Dutch 302 Squadron has scheduled a training event with CH-47 Chinook helicopters and ground personnel at Granger Lake, similar to the training event conducted in early February. The exercise will take place around twilight of June 3 and concludes in the afternoon of June 4 with a follow-on mission at Camp Swift. This training event will involve three Chinook helicopters and approximately 120 troops, ground vehicles, and U.S. forces role playing as enemy forces.
