FORT HOOD (Now designated Fort Cavazos), Texas – Fort Hood (Now designated Fort Cavazos) officials have released the name of a Soldier who was found unresponsive July 26 in Sly County, Georgia.
Spc. Deangelo Marquis Mathis, 22, whose home of record is listed as Mauk, Georgia, entered active-duty military service in July 2012 as a Patriot missle launching station enhanced operator and was assigned to 1st Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, Fort Hood (Now designated Fort Cavazos), since May 2014.
Mathis’ awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, two Army Achievement Medals, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and Marksman Qualification Badge Rifle.
Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and U.S. Criminal Investigation Command.
