FORT HOOD (Now designated Fort Cavazos), Texas—More than 100 staff members packed into the atrium on the fifth floor of Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center to collect information on various educational and training topics at the Medical-Surgical Pediatric Unit’s inaugural In-Service Fair March 16.
“The medical field is a constantly changing environment. We have to continue learning to stay on top of the latest technology and techniques if we want to provide our patients with the best evidence-based medical care possible,” said 1st Lt. Maria Margarita Barrameda, the nurse in MSPU who coordinated the fair. “With our hectic schedules, we often don’t have the time to have peer-to-peer discussions to find out what the latest developments are in other departments. The intent of the In-Service Fair was to give staff the opportunity to meet face-to-face with staff from different departments and garner as much information as possible–all in one stop.”
There were more than 15 services and departments represented at the fair and education topics included everything from Wound Care and Heparin Drips to HIPAA and SHARP training.
