BELTON, Texas — The Fort Cavazos garrison commander and mayors along with area city representatives from each of the Cen-Tex Sustainable communities will gather from 10 – 11:30 a.m. March 6 at Harris Community Center to sign a proclamation, recognizing April as Sustainable Environment Month.
Col. Lakicia R. Stokes, Fort Cavazos garrison commander, will host the ceremony. The ceremony will also include recognizing an individual, family or organization from each partner community with the 2025 Cen-Tex Sustainable Communities Partnership Environmental Ambassador Award.
Fort Cavazos and neighboring communities Killeen, Harker Heights, Copperas Cove, Nolanville, Belton, Salado, Gatesville, and Lampasas make up the Cen-Tex Sustainable Communities Partnership.
In addition, area schools will be recognized as winners of the Youth Environmental Ambassadors! program. Fifteen students will be recognized as YEA! Recycled Art Contest winners and one student as the winner of the Texas Recycles! Poster Contest.
Awardees include community members, organizations, schools and youth for their efforts in fostering community service and promoting beautification, conservation, pollution prevention, and recycling through youth and community initiatives.
