FORT CAVAZOS, Texas–The annual Fort Cavazos Best Dining Facility Thanksgiving Competition had noncommissioned officers and officers post-wide serving meals to Soldiers and their families Nov. 21 here.
Lt. Gen. Sean Bernabe, III Corps and Fort Cavazos commanding general, along with other senior leaders and their spouses and families visited five different dining facilities on post as judges for this year’s competition. The five dining facilities that competed were Always Ready, Ironhorse, Black Jack, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Theodore Roosevelt.
“These Soldiers did an outstanding job” Bernabe said. ” These Soldiers worked some long hours to make this meal something special.”
Ray and Frances Avilez came to eat with the soldiers, ” I put it on my calendar to come her and eat,” Ray said.
“The meal is delicious and the place looks above great,” Francis chimed in.
Sgt. Nuulau Tiamagiagi of 15th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division, and her brother, Lance, were thankful to share a meal with each other, “It’s a honor and privilege because this is the first time he gets to experience where I eat as a Solider.”
The winners of this year’s competition was the Always Ready Dinning Facility which had a unique Egyptian theme. Bernabe presented the trophy to Spc. Mikayla Ellison, a representative of the dinning facility.
