UPDATE: The championship round of 2016 Fort Hood (Now designated Fort Cavazos) Combatives Tournament was held earlier than previously scheduled.
The 1st Cavalry Division’s 3rd Cavalry Regiment earned the team title in the tournament. The Brave Rifles took the team title with 123 points, ten more than the 48th Chemical Brigade. The First Team’s 1st Air Cavalry Brigade came in third in team scoring with 51 points.

The Fort Hood (Now designated Fort Cavazos) Combatives Tournament 2016 kicked off at Abrams Fitness Center. Soldiers from various units around the installation compete in a number of weight classes in hopes of moving on to the next round. The tournament takes place from December 12-14, 2016. FORT HOOD (Now designated Fort Cavazos), Texas — Soldiers from units across Fort Hood (Now designated Fort Cavazos) will descend on Abrams Physical Fitness Center Dec. 12-14 to determine the best Fort Hood (Now designated Fort Cavazos) fighters in the 2016 Combatives Championship here.
Combatives is the Army’s version of Mixed Martial Arts used to hone warrior skills in hand-to-hand combat.
Preliminary rounds are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 12 at Abrams Physical Fitness Center. Quarter-final rounds are 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Dec. 13. Semi-final and Championship rounds are 4-9 p.m. Dec. 14.
Weight classes range from bantamweight to heavyweight for both male and female.
The event is free and open to the public. Those who do not have a DoD identification card must stop by the visitor’s center to gain access onto post.
