Fort Cavazos, Texas – U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Kevin D. Admiral will assume duties as commander of 1st Cavalry Division from Maj. Gen. John B. Richardson IV during a change-of-command ceremony at 9:00 a.m. on Cooper Field, July 14.

Admiral most recently served as Director of Force Management, overseeing the planning and development of all Army force structure of over one million personnel across the Active, National Guard and Army reserve components.

Admiral, an Armor officer, is a 1994 graduate of the University of Kansas. Admiral is no stranger to Fort Cavazos having served as the 76th Regimental Commander of the 3rd Cavalry Regiment.

Richardson has been in command of the 1st Cavalry Division since July 2021. As Commander of the 1st Cavalry Division, Richardson led the division through several rotations in support of the European theater.
