The First Team hosts “CAV Week” from Sept. 12 through Sept. 16 in celebration of the division’s 101st Birthday.
Next week, the 1st Cavalry Division will host a variety of events across Fort Hood (Now designated Fort Cavazos), Texas to commemorate its birthday and to build camaraderie around the heritage of the First Team. Events will include a division run, sports competitions, a cake cutting ceremony, a parade and interactive displays. We would also like to invite visitors to take a tour through the newly unveiled Heritage Hall located inside the division headquarters building, to learn more about the rich history of the division. Throughout the week, Veterans, Family Members and civilians are invited on base to observe events, tour equipment displays and engage with First Team Veterans and Troopers.
Below are key events open to news media and the general public during the week:
Monday Sep. 12
6:15 a.m.: 1st Cavalry Division command teams will lead the Troopers on a 5K run from Cooper Field down Legends Way.
9:00 a.m.: First Team sports tournaments begin:
- Softball at Rodney Evans Softball Park
- Soccer at Fort Hood (Now designated Fort Cavazos) Stadium
- Dodgeball at Abrams Gym outdoor courts
- Basketball at Abrams Gym
- Flag Football at Field 9400 Legends Way.
1:00 p.m.: Tug of War at 1CD Sustainment Brigade Field located at 761st Tank BN Ave. and 62nd St.
Tuesday Sep. 13
6:30 a.m.: 1st Cavalry Division run starting on Cooper Field
7:00 a.m.: Power Lifting competition at Harvey Fitness Center
7:20 a.m.: Division Birthday Cake Cutting ceremony on Cooper Field
9:00 a.m.: Sporting events for the day begin:
- First Team Golf Scramble at the Courses of Clear Creek
- Softball at Rodney Evans Softball Park
- Soccer at Fort Hood (Now designated Fort Cavazos) Stadium
- Dodgeball at Abrams Gym outdoor courts
- Basketball at Abrams Gym
- Flag Football at Field 9400 on Legends Way.
Wednesday Sep. 14
6:30 a.m.: Formation Relay on Cooper Field
7:00 a.m.: Ruck Relay on Cooper Field and Power Lifting competition at Harvey Fitness Center.
9:00 a.m.: Sporting events for the day begin:
- Gaming Tournament at 8th Engineer Battalion on the corner of 72nd and Legends Way
- Softball at Rodney Evans Softball Park\
- Soccer at Fort Hood (Now designated Fort Cavazos) Stadium
- Dodgeball at Abrams Gym outdoor courts
- Stress Shoot at Blackwell Rifle Range
- Basketball at Abrams Gym

Thursday Sep. 15
6:00 a.m.: First Team Triathlon starting at Comanche Pool and ending on Cooper Field.
9:00 a.m.: Sporting events for the day begin:
- Softball at Rodney Evans Softball Park
- Soccer at Fort Hood (Now designated Fort Cavazos) Stadium
- Dodgeball at Abrams Gym outdoor courts
- Basketball in Abrams Gym
- Flag Football at Field 9400 on Legends Way.
10:00 a.m.: Cornhole tournament on Cooper Field and Paintball tournament at BLORA Paintball course.
11:00 a.m.: Bowling competition at Phantom Warrior Lanes.
4:00 p.m.: An award ceremony for sporting event winners will take place on Cooper Field
Friday Sep. 16
9 a.m.: 1st Cavalry Division will host a parade, car show and interactive displays on Cooper Field. This culminating event will include performances by the 1st Cavalry Division band and a special cavalry charge featuring the 1st Cavalry Division Horse Cavalry Detachment, led by the commanding general, Maj. Gen. John B. Richardson IV, with a flyover from the Air Cavalry Brigade.
Gate call to observe this event will be at 8 a.m.
Visitors not affiliated with media and without a DoD ID card, please go to the Marvin Leath Visitors Center located on T.J. Mills Blvd. at a time coordinated with the 1st Cavalry Division Public Affairs team for installation access.
