FORT HOOD (Now designated Fort Cavazos), Texas — The 1st Cavalry Division is scheduled to hold a combined change of command and change of responsibility ceremony at 9 a.m. Oct. 3 on Cooper Field.
Maj. Gen John C. Thomson III will relinquish command to Brig. Gen. Paul T. Calvert. Calvert, who was confirmed by the senate for promotion in July, will be promoted to major general shortly before the ceremony. Calvert currently serves as the division’s deputy commander – maneuver.
Command Sgt. Maj. Maurice Jackson will relinquish responsibility to Command Sgt. Maj. Shane E. Pospisil during the same ceremony. Pospisil comes to the division from the United States Military Training Mission to Saudi Arabia.
Upon completion of the changes of command and responsibility, Thomson will assume duties of III Corps deputy commanding general – maneuver, and Jackson will assume duties for Task Force Phantom command sergeant major, III Corps.
Senior leaders from across Fort Hood (Now designated Fort Cavazos) and Central Texas will be in attendance. The ceremony will include an inspection of the troops by outgoing and incoming commanders by horseback, a salute battery, and a cavalry charge.
